    Careers at ESA

ESA is one of Europe’s leading space science and technology organisations, so the vast majority of jobs lie within the engineering and scientific disciplines.

Like any organisation, we also need a support and management infrastructure to support the technical core. As such, ESA’s occupations can be grouped into five broad professional areas:

    • Management
    • Engineering
    • Science
    • Management support
    • Administrative and technical services

Career management is an ongoing joint process between employees, seeking to develop their full potential and achieve their career aspirations, and the organisation, seeking to ensure that the necessary human resources are available to meet its current and future objectives.

Career progression at ESA is multidimensional. It covers job enrichment, lateral movement, changes in responsibility and upward progression. Depending on the profile of the staff member, career progression is possible both within and across each of the professional areas.
