A new position for a Research Fellow has now opened at ESRIN, in the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes.

The research fellow will conduct its activity as part of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (EOP) within the ESA EO Mission Management Division which is responsible amongst other for the mission management of the Earth Explorers missions, for the development of the Payload Data Ground Segment of the Earth Explorers missions and for the management of sensor performance, data and product quality of EO missions, including Earth Explorer missions.

The research fellow will join the Section in charge of the sensor performance, data quality, algorithm development, calibration and validation for the ESA EO missions.

The candidate will be involved in the following activities related to the preparation of the ESA Biomass mission(P-band Synthetic Aperture Radar):

1)    Support the research and development activities for theLevel 1 SAR and Tomographic processingfor theESA Biomass mission. It encompasses the definition of the requirements for the Biomass Level 1 data processor, the contribution to the development of the processing and calibration algorithms, the participation to the mission reviews.

2)    Support the research on theLevel 2 processing algorithmsfor the Biomass mission, contributing to algorithms reviews and supporting their correct integration within the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS).

3)    Participate to the definition and review of theBiomass mission calibration and geophysical validationapproach by following and/or exploiting the results of the dedicated airborne radar and ground data measurement campaigns that will take place during the phase B2, C and D.

4)    Contribute to the definition of aBiomass User Exploitation Platformintended to be the main tool for researchers to exploit and access Biomass data and related campaigns data.

Follow the current or future ESA data exploitation projects (e.g. GlobBiomass) related to the biomass inversion from SAR data using data from heritage missions (ERS, Envisat), new ESA/EC missions (Sentinel-1) or third party missions (ALOS-1/2, SAOCOM) that are of direct interest for the ESA Biomass mission.
