The glove that built Columbus

Bronze replica of original astronaut glove

The ISS Awards trophies are bronze replicas of the right-hand glove of astronaut Hans Schlegel.

This glove is known as 'the glove that built Columbus', since Schlegel was wearing it during his extra-vehicular activity while installing the Columbus Module on the International Space Station.

The trophy in the making

With this history in mind, the glove symbolises the handshake of trust that is built between the ISS crew and those who support them, through vision, innovation, cooperation, and reliance.
