The European Astronaut Centre is looking for a dynamic intern in the field of User Interface Development (Software Engineering). The full-time internship is for six months, based at EAC near the historic city of Cologne.

The Internship

mobile Procedure Viewer, mobiPV, is a wearable system designed to allow astronauts to access and execute science experiment procedures on-the-go, instead of being on a traditional laptop at a fixed location. With mobiPV, procedures can be viewed hands-free on a wrist-mounted smartphone and on an iPad and with a heads up using Google Glass.

The user interface (UI) is currently web based (Sencha Touch) and is accessed via web browser from both an Android Smartphone (main device) and an iPad (assistive display). The objective of the internship is to replace such interface with native Android (first priority) and iOS (second priority) UIs. The final goal is for the user experience to be fully in line with modern UI standards and guidelines.

Interns will develop an Android user interface following Android app user interface guidelines. The app shall interface with the core existing mobiPV C code. The same is envisioned for the iOS user interface, using an Apple app user interface guidelines. Development shall be iterative and include frequent end-user assessments.
