The Tech, Business & Regulatory Industry Workshop is a new initiative of the ECSL, to be organised once a year in collaboration with partners. The ECSL has decided to adopt this event as a permanent activity in order to strengthen our ties with Members, in particular those from industry. The purpose of this interdisciplinary event is to bring together stakeholders from different aspects of the space industry to exchange on the technology, business and legal/regulatory aspects of a given topic.
On 26 April 2016, the ECSL organised the first workshop - the NewSpace Tech, Business & Regulatory Industry Workshop - which was held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK. This workshop was organised in collaboration with a number of partners including Bird & Bird LLP, the Satellite Finance Network, the University of Strathclyde Law School and the Scottish Centre of Excellence in Satellite Applications. It was attended by a wide variety of representatives from across the space sector in the UK and Europe more broadly. The aim was to provide these stakeholders with the chance to exchange and engage in inter-disciplinary discussion on the opportunities and challenges - tech, business and regulatory - as regards NewSpace.
The second workshop - the Small Satellites Tech, Business & Regulatory Industry Workshop - was held at ESTEC, Netherlands on 13 April 2017. The 2017 workshop was organised in partnership with the Dutch NPOC the International Institute of Air and Space Law at Leiden University, ISIS - Innovative Solutions in Space B.V., and was sponsored by the Netherlands Space Society, SpaceNed and Airbus Defence and Space Netherlands B.V. Information on the programme and speakers for this event is available at: https://indico.esa.int/indico/event/186/
