SOHO, the ESA–NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, is observing and investigating the Sun from the L1 Lagrangian point, 1.5 million km from Earth in the direction of the Sun.

Launched on 2 December 1995 and originally planned to be a two-year mission, SOHO is now celebrating two decades of scientific discoveries. During its pioneering career it has returned a wealth of new information regarding the Sun’s deep core through to the hot and dynamic outer atmosphere, the solar wind and solar energetic particles.

Today SOHO is relied upon to monitor the effect of space weather on our planet, and it plays a vital role in forecasting potentially dangerous solar storms.

This brochure presents some of SOHO's key scientific highlights of the last two decades. Read online
