ESA operations centre to be expanded

    14 January 2011

The first phase of the ESOC II €60 million modernisation and expansion project will comprise an investment of a total of €24 million of which €9.5 million will be co-sponsored by the German federal government and another €2 million by the State of Hessen (click on full story for gallery).

An event with media and guests was held at ESOC on 13 January to announce the upcoming expansion of the ESOC Establishment.

During the event, State Secretary P. Hintze from BMWi (German Federal Ministry of Economics) relayed Germany's recently published space strategy, its concrete impact on ESA's Operations Centre and new attractive career possibilities for young Germans in European space.

ESA's DG J.-J. Dordain, Prof. J. Wörner (Head of DLR) as well as D/OPS J.-F. Kaufeler, explained the ESOC II construction plans, the project funding and the associated long-term perspectives of our centre.

Full details are available here in ESA's German-language pages.
