Long Night of the Stars to celebrate ESOC's 50th birthday
On 8 September, the public is invited to join us starting at 16:00 CEST to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ESOC, ESA's European Space Operations Centre, in Darmstadt, Germany. Tickets go on sale 10 June.
ESOC will celebrate its 50th anniversary this September with 'Long Night of the Stars', an open-door event to welcome the public into the heart of mission control.
Visitors will tour the centre's facilities and see first-hand how missions are flown, which include spacecraft that are exploring Mars, observing the Sun-Earth connection, peering deep into our Universe across time and space or studying our home planet, helping scientists better understand climate change and Earth's environment.
During Long Night of the Stars, experts from ESA will brief visitors, host guided tours of the control rooms and specialised facilities that support satellite operations and provide a rarely seen look behind the scenes at Europe's 'gateway to space'.
In addition, the evening will include information booths, public information talks, telescopes to take a peek at what's up above and an activity area for children.
Even if tickets sell out, the public is welcome to follow a stage programme produced in cooperation with Hessischer Rundfunk in front of ESOC.
