This year ESA participated at the Annual Conference of ECSITE, the European Network of Science Centres and Museums, held in Budapest from 29 to 31 May. The aim of this participation is to open up new cooperation and new ways to work with science museums, centres and planetariums across Europe in order to raise and reinforce public awareness of European space programmes

ESA participates in a number of exhibitions held in its various Member States, including the major international air shows in Europe, conferences within the space community and exhibitions for the public around specific events or missions. Different levels of information are required for different target audiences – from the specialist to the uninitiated - and a range of material is produced and regularly updated that is geared to museums, planetariums and the general public.

Following the growing interest in European space programmes shown by a number of museums and other similar institutions, ESA launched a dedicated exhibition website on its portal in 2007. Printed and interactive material can be downloaded free of charge by professionals and the public, including posters, slideshows and “magic Books”.

ESA presented this material and website within a small exhibition at ECSITE 2008, in order to open discussions with museums and science centres, to have their feedback and evaluate how it can be used.

ESA exhibition material is available online in several different languages and can be downloaded from our site www.esa.int/SPECIALS/Exhibitions free of charge.

Currently we are working on restructuring this website, updating its content and gearing its use to the specific needs of user institutions.
