    ESA Telecom Start-up Projects Initiative

    MTI satellite
    3 March 2005

ESA Telecom offers an exciting opportunity for start-up projects - an open door for business innovation - with a new initiative aimed at supporting a number of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) through the early development stages of researching and refining a business proposition. Outline proposals must be submitted before 8 May 2005.

The field of satellite communications (Satcom) can be a tough one for smaller businesses to enter. The technical and commercial risks, as well as the perceived complexity of the area, can act as strong deterrents to entrepreneurs and potential financiers alike. However, Satcom provides many exciting possibilities for new technology, applications and services in areas such as mobile communications, Internet, multimedia and broadcast - and it is not only the large enterprises that can exploit these opportunities successfully.

Since 2001 ESA has yearly launched this initiative designed to help smaller companies enter the Satcom sector or to develop new business ideas in the field. The results of the programme have encouraged ESA to expand and refine the scheme to build on the initial success.

To participate Outline Proposals must be submitted before 8 May 2005

From 29 March 2005 to 8 May 2005, Outline Proposals for the Fifth Round of the ESA Telecom Start-up Projects Initiative will be accepted.

From 20 June 2005 to 26 August 2005, Full Proposals for the Fifth Round will be accepted from companies that have successfully passed the Outline Proposal stage.
