In a series of exciting video stories featuring the Playmobil toy system, the ever-knowledgeable robot host ROBert is assisted by ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano to explain how you can become an astronaut and what it’s like to live in space.

Training to become an astronaut is challenging, but exactly what is involved is not always clear. Thanks to a collaboration between ESA and Playmobil, young space fans are given an expert view of what happens and the skills needed for an astronaut career.

Coinciding with ESA’s recruitment campaign for the next generation of space explorers, these light-hearted episodes recreate ESA’s European Astronaut Centre through the lens of the Playmobil universe. The series combines video footage of what real astronauts experience, with scenes performed by the Playmobil astronaut training team.

These episodes are the latest additions to Playmobil’s growing collection of ‘ROBert knows’ stop-motion animations. These use Playmobil figures to explain various interesting everyday questions in an engaging and child-friendly way. While the first instalment in the ESA/Playmobil video series shows viewers how to become an astronaut, the second video explores what it’s like to live and work on the International Space Station.

Check out the first two episodes here:

Both episodes have been released in German, and will quickly followed by versions in eight more languages (English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Greek) via Playmobil’s YouTube channels.

If this series has inspired any slightly older space fans into applying to join ESA’s astronaut team, then see details of our astronaut recruitment campaign.
