Four active decades of aerospace and space research in Switzerland, was celebrated in Lausanne yesterday at an event co-hosted by the the Swiss Space Office (SSO), the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe, and the European Space Agency (ESA). The theme was: “40 years collaboration of Switzerland in European aerospace – Review and Perspectives”.

Distinguished guests included aerospace pioneers, scientists, and decision makers, who have played an important role in forming Swiss aerospace and space research on both the national and European level under the auspices of ESA. A large group of students aged 16 to 18 were able to listen in on the debate on the usefulness of space activities and to a presentation by Switzerland’s most famous space adventurer – ESA astronaut Claude Nicollier.

A special aerospace book: Die Schweiz, Europa und der Weltraum (Switzerland, Europe and Outer Space) was premiered on the same occasion. This book is available in French and German.
