Conference on EU Space Policy 2014
The sixth high-level Conference on EU Space Policy, 'What direction for Europe in space between now and 2020?', takes place on 28–29 January at the Charlemagne building of the European Commission in Brussels.
This conference on EU Space Policy comes at a crucial time, with the start of the European Union's Multiannual Financial Framework for the years 2014–20 and the upcoming ESA Council at Ministerial level, due to take place at the end of this year, making it the perfect moment to examine the future of Europe in space.
Among the many issues that will be discussed by space sector stakeholders are the competitiveness of the European space industry, the international dimension of space, a prospective state of play of EU space programmes, the growing role of satellite telecommunications and the new challenges facing operators, the new challenges and opportunities for Europe in space, and, finally, the defence and security dimension of space services and activities. Delegates include high-level representatives from the EU institutions, national decision-makers, heads of national agencies, the presidents and CEOs of numerous companies operating in the European space sector, and representatives of civil society and space-application users.
The conference is established under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, and benefits from the support of the Vice-President of the European Commission, Antonio Tajani, and the ESA Director-General Jean-Jacques Dordain.
