Navigation professionals are invited to a one-day workshop on Promoting Satellite Navigation Applications. It will be held at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), Noordwijk, The Netherlands on 26 April, 2005.

It will provide an open forum to satellite navigation application developers, users, universities, public authorities, private operators and agencies representatives to discuss what tools and facilities are needed for the successful development and testing of applications for the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) and Galileo.

Organised by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU). The ultimate objective is to build up an overview of the current situation, identify future needs and encourage networking of tools and facilities.

Online forum prior to the workshop

Participants of the workshop will be able to share and discuss in advance different points of view and experiences on different topics by means of dedicated web forums. The moderators of these forums come from public organisations including universities, space agencies.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Means and infrastructures for education
  • Tools and facilities to support basic technologies and techniques
  • Tools and facilities to support application developers
  • Tools and facilities to support standardization and certification of applications
  • Tools and facilities to support private operators and public authorities

To submit comments in any of the forums, the following procedure should be used to first register with the web forums:

Access forums at: https://artes.eproject.com/
Note that access to the forum is for registered users only .

Forum participants are encouraged to support their contributions with relevant documents, papers or presentations posted via the web forums so that others will have the opportunity to read and comment. Replies and different opinions are welcome.

The moderator for each forum topic will collect the findings and present the results to the audience on the day of the workshop. Participants will then have the opportunity to comment in public on the results and even to make their own short presentations.

Workshop

The workshop will be organised around a single plenary stream of sessions with presentations and open discussions. Presentations during the workshop will include a summary of the tools and facilities needed within each of the topics identified, as discussed in the web forum. These findings will be presented by the moderators and be open to discussion.

An update on the status of the institutional navigation laboratory facilities and the ESA/GJU support to the development of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) applications will also be presented.
