ESA Business Incubation Centre Estonia
ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Estonia is planned to be opened during European Space Week in Tallinn on 7 November 2017.
“We are entering a time of mental horsepower. Everything that gets start-ups to prosper, gets a small country to prosper”, said Steve Jurvetson, American businessman and venture capitalist, and partner of Draper Fisher Jurvetson.
Estonia became a full member of ESA on September 1st, 2015. Two years later we welcome the opportunity to launch ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) Estonia with incubation offices in Tartu and Tallinn.
ESA BIC Estonia helps to transfer technology from space to non-space applications and will support 20 Estonian start-ups over a 5 year period to develop products for terrestrial use.

Why ESA BIC Estonia?
Estonian companies have been in active cooperation with ESA for 5 years. Several studies and technology audits have been carried out, and the outcome showed excellent Estonian space capabilities and capacities. They also showed that Estonian companies and R&D institutions possess serious potential for developing services and applications from space-related technologies.
ESA BIC Estonia is part of the Europe-wide ESA BIC network, offering access to ESA expertise, knowledge and data, laboratory and testing facilities of the participating universities and hands on business development support from the incubation centre teams.
“We aim at being the most advanced digital society in the world and launch new start-ups in the field of European space technology,” says Andrus Kurvits.
ESA BIC Estonia has business incubation offices at two locations.
Tartu Science Park
Tartu Science Park (TSP) is the oldest science park in the Baltic. For 25 years it has provided business support services to raise the competitiveness of local enterprises on the global market. TSP provides enterprises with infrastructure, business consulting, technology transfer and networking services. It has a wide network of contacts with universities, public and private sector organisations and has a close cooperation with the University of Tartu and Tartu Observatory.
Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol
Tehnopol is a science and business campus, founded in 2003, which aims to advance technology-based entrepreneurship in Estonia, to bring scientists and entrepreneurs together and to provide suitable conditions and a suitable environment for the realisation of breakthrough business ideas.
Today, there are nearly 200 companies (from start-ups to Skype) operating on the Tehnopol campus, which is located close to Tallinn University of Technology and the Estonian IT College. The physical environment, the start-up incubator and the business development services targeting at information and communications technology, green tech and health tech growth companies, all create excellent conditions for the development of high value-added businesses.
