The first image of the SAC-C Earth Observation spacecraft, owned and operated by Argentina's CONAE space agency. Taken 11 days after SAC-C's November 2000 launch, it shows a section of the arid Patagonian Plateau including the Los Barreales Reservoir (towards top right) formed by dams over the rivers Neuquén and Limay, as well as Lake Nahuel Huapi located below it. The 175-m-resolution 360-km-swath image was taken by SAC-C's Multispectrum Medium Resolution Scanner (MMRS) in five spectral bands. Argentina has now signed the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters, so SAC-C and other resources can be utilised when the need arises.
