Mars Express 07-087 03.26.15 VMC Img No 29.png
This image, from 2007, DoY (day of year) 87, was the first image showing a Martian volcano, the 18km peak of Ascraeus Mons in the top right of the image. Ascraeus Mons is the northernmost of the famous Tharsis Montes chain of mountains, and if placed on Earth would cover an area twice that of Austria. Striped cloud cover can also be seen over the South Pole at the bottom of the image.
