ESA goes to great lengths to make sure the data from CryoSat are accurate. Through validation campaigns in the polar regions, a wealth of in-situ data are gathered using a range of instruments on the ground and from radar installed on aircraft. These measurements, taken on and over land and sea ice, can then be compared with the data being received from CryoSat in orbit.
