Business opportunities in Space
A conference on 'Business opportunities in Space' will take place on 28 March 2007 at the Management Development Centre of Cranfield University, Bedford, UK. The aim is to bring together organisations with long experience of the space market to explain how it operates and how to gain entry.
Space can be a difficult market to enter, with barriers and pitfalls that need to be understood to be avoided. At the Conference, which is organised by the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium (FAC) and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), organisations, opinion formers and decision makers from government, academia and the private sector will describe the broad landscape of the space market and highlight upstream/downstream technology challenges and business opportunities.
Frank M. Salzgeber, Acting Head of ESA’s Technology Transfer Programme Office (TTPO), will address the Conference on ‘ESA and its priorities for Knowledge Transfer’. This will present the business opportunities which ESA’s TTPO makes available to European companies and illustrate a number of stunning successful transfers of space technology.
"I will focus on how SMEs can use space to make their businesses even more successful," emphasises Salzgeber. "The main mission of ESA’s technology transfer programme is to demonstrate the benefits of European space programmes to citizens and to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry. This is done by stimulating the use of space technologies for non-space applications, leading to innovative products, new jobs in Europe and the enhancement of everyday life for European citizens."
The Conference will also be addressed by representatives of the British National Space Centre, large companies, small- and medium-sized companies and universities. Some of the subjects that will come under discussion are: the different aspects of operating in the European space business, regional strategies and the various funding opportunities available to innovators. There will also be ample opportunity for discussion, debate and networking with delegates and speakers.
