Centres of Expertise
Some of the tasks in the later phases of the project (e.g. build, Assembly, Integration, Verification of Engineering and Flight Models) have been carried out by around 60 students at four universities acting as Centres of Expertise (CoE).
University of Patras
The University of Patras acted as a Centre of Expertise in Mechanical design, Thermal modeling and Dynamic analysis (simulating if the space craft will survive re-entry).
University of Modena & Reggio Emilia
Reggio students specialised in the MASS Fotino Detaining/Decoupling (MFD) system design and the early vibration testing of MFD. Also where the first downsized Fotino mock-up was manufactured and tested under severe thermal conditions.
Fachhochschule RheinAhrCampus Remagen/Krefeld
Students here helped to design the winding machine, tether test rig, deployer and the power distribution unit. They also conducted tether and deployment tests.
Volgaspace (Samara State Aerospace University SSAU)
Students from Samara State specialised in Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis. They performed analysis in trajectory and stability of Fotino during re-entry and tether safety. They have provided sensors and will perform data post-processing.
