    Toward the heavens

    The Soyuz is lifted into the vertical position

    Roger gives a thumbs up after the successful lifting process. The Soyuz is now in the vertical position.


    Something to lean on

    The walkways and supporting gantries are moved into place

    The support strutts and walkways are now being lifted around the Soyuz.

    Encased

    The supporting structures for the rocket are now in place

    The Soyuz rocket is now fully encased by the walkway structure. The rocket is ready for launch!

    Lift off!

    Launch of Foton-M3 with YES2

    The Soyuz-U rocket launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, at 13:00 CEST (11:00 GMT) on 14 September 2007, for the start of the 12-day Foton-M3 mission and the YES2 deployment.
