ROSAT is a defunct mission led by the DLR German Aerospace Center that was launched on 1 June 1990. Friction from Earth's upper atmosphere is causing the satellite to lose altitude continuously. When it reenters the atmosphere, which is expected to occur in a few weeks, the satellite will disintegrate and most of the fragments will burn up from the extreme heat. For full details on this mission and its reentry, please access the DLR website in English or German.
