567 - Abstract:
From the collaboration between research organisations a novel antenna was developed by refining the existing reflectarrays designs. This advanced conception would be useful for emergency, security or possibly biomedical applications, basically systems that require an electronically configurable antenna. Reflectarrays break away from the bulkiness inherent to parabolic reflectors, allowing for flat, low profile implementations. Licensce agreement collaboration is sought.

Description of the offer:

 The present offer relates to a method for manufacturing an aperiodic reflectarray antenna. This process comprises the design phase that uses a multi-stage synthesis algorithm capable of determining the important physical and geometrical parameters as a function of the design specification and the synthesisation phase where the array is physically constructed.

The technology improves the traditional concept by establishing a robust design phase (based on a developed algorithm) capable of accommodating aperiodic spacing and shape of the individual Electromagnetic Scatterers (ES) on a conformal surface. This means that the antenna can have various shapes (not only flat, spherical or paraboloid) and that the ES don't need to be similar to each other or neatly arranged in an equidivided grid.

Innovations and advantages:

The aperiodic and conformal reflectarray design allows for higher degrees of freedom when building the antenna. Accommodations can be made in the design phase concerning the final shape of the apparatus taking into account aesthetic or other reasons. By using diodes associated with each ES it is possible to have an active reflectarray capable of configuring its beam focus and direction electronically, i.e. without dependence on mechanical gears.

The technology may be interesting to the telecommunication industry, especially radars, TV, radio, high frequency technology, microwaves, narrow band technologies, microwave and satellite components or therapeutic services.
