    Media outreach event 17 December and downloadable files

    ESA’s new tracking station in Malargüe, Argentina, will be formally inaugurated on 18 December. No media event in Europe is planned. A press release and web news updates will appear in the main ESA web site (http://www.esa.int) this week and on inauguration day. The media factsheet (below) provides links to downloadable image and video files.

    The inauguration ceremony will take place 18 December at the station in the presence of Julio de Vido, Argentina’s Minister of Federal Planning, Services and Public Investment, as well as ESA’s Thomas Reiter, Director of Human Spaceflight and Operations, and Alvaro Giménez Cañete, Director of Science and Robotic Exploration.

    The new station is located 30 km south of Malargüe city, Mendoza Province, Argentina, some 1200 km west of Buenos Aires.

    On 17 December 2012, 14:00–16:00, Argentina’s Comisión Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE) will host a science outreach event to mark the inauguration at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA), Edificio San José, Buenos Aires.
