N° 20–1998: ESA Council meeting in Brussels, general information for the press

The 136th ESA Council meeting at delegate level will take place in Brussels on 23 and 24 June 1998. It will be the first step leading to the Council meeting at ministerial level to be convened to define ESA's future activities.

The meeting also marks the 25th anniversary of the European Space Conference held in Brussels in July 1973 which will be celebrated at a ceremony on 23 June at 11:30 hrs at the UGC cinema in Brussels, Place de Brouckère, attended by high-level ESA representatives, Council delegates and some of the participants at the Conference 25 years ago.

Journalists invited to attend the ceremony will have opportunities to interview the European Ministers present. On Wednesday 24, at the end of the Council meeting, the Chairman of the ESA Council, Mr Hugo Parr, and the Director General of ESA, Mr. Antonio Rodotà, will hold a press conference in the main Conference Room of the Hotel Métropole (Salon Excelsior), 31 place de Brouckère, 1000 Brussels, scheduled to start at 15:00 hrs.

Note: There will be no permanent Press Centre during the meeting. Access to the press conference on Wednesday afternoon will be granted only to media representatives and press officers of space companies and national space bodies who have returned the attached Accreditation Form.
