The two man Expedition Ten crew, comprising Commander Leroy Chiao, and Flight Engineer Salizhan S. Sharipov, will welcome the Soyuz TMA-6 crew on board the International Space Station when they arrive on 17 April 2005.

The Expedition Ten crew has been on board ISS since 16 October 2004 when they arrived with the Soyuz TMA-5. Expedition Eleven, comprising Commander Sergei Krikalev and Flight Engineer John Phillips, who will arrive with the Soyuz TMA-6, will replace the Expedition Ten crew.

On 25 April 2005, after a six-month stay on board ISS, the Expedition Ten crew will return to Earth in the Soyuz TMA-5 together with ESA astronaut Roberto Vittori.

Leroy Chiao was born 28 August 1960 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the United States of America. He is married.

Chiao received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1983, and a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1985 and 1987.

Selected by NASA in January 1990, Chiao became an astronaut in July 1991. He is qualified for flight assignment as a Space Station Commander, Space Station Science Officer and as a Space Shuttle Mission Specialist.

Chiao is a veteran of three previous spaceflights between 1994 and 2000. He has made four spacewalks (EVAs) during his previous missions.

Leroy Chiao is the Commander and NASA Science Officer on Expedition Ten.

Salizhan Sharipov was born 24 August 1964 in Uzgen, Oshsk region, Kirghizia. Married with two children.

Sharipov Graduated from the Air Force Pilot School in 1987. In 1994, he graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in cartography.

Selected by the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre (GCTC) Sharipov became a cosmonaut-candidate in 1990. In 1992, he completed general space training and became a cosmonaut. He has completed a full course of training for OC MIR space flights as a crew commander.

Sharipov has flown one previous mission. He served as a mission specialist on the crew of STS-89 (22-31 January 1998), the eighth Shuttle-Mir docking mission.

Sharipov is the Soyuz Commander and Flight Engineer on ISS Expedition Ten.
