Erasmus USOC control room
The Erasmus USOC kernel, where all operational activities take place, is located in the Operations Control Room. Operators and Ground Controllers support both the EDR operations on ISS and the supporting ground-infrastructure from the Erasmus Operations Control Room.
The Operations Control Room comprises two Operator console positions, such that EDR and e.g. a second payload can be simultaneously operated.
The Erasmus USOC also provides the infrastructure capability of simultaneously supporting two Operators and one Ground Controller; this enables the USOC to support two separate payloads at the same time during a peak activity time. In the past this double set-up has been used when both intensive EDR and EuTEF Operations had to take place in parallel, and worked out flawless and successfully. Also the second position serves as a back-up for real-time operations execution.
There is also a position for the Erasmus Ground Controller, who maintains the Erasmus USOC Ground Infrastructure and its connections to the Columbus Control Centre (Col-CC). Erasmus Ground Facilities are 24/7 connected with COL-CC, located at Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich (Germany), and Erasmus is also connected to other centres, such as FSCs and UHBs.
Besides realtime operations, also training simulations (or testing ) can also be done at the same time from the separate simulation’s/Back-up control room.
