    TNO - Clima Chambers

    Full Description

These facilities are specifically used to perform research on subjects during heat strain or cold strain. The main interest of the research group is the thermal physiology of humans in extreme environments. Subjects are studied under climatic conditions and extreme work loads using physiological measurements like body core temperature, skin temperature, metabolic rate, heart rate, blood flow, heat transfer, oxygen consumption, etc. Also the effects of clothing on the human is studied extensively. Especially the effects of clothing insulation, vapour transfer, moisture absorption and condensation and clothing ventilation on human performance and heat stress are studied on subjects.

    Climatic chambers, dimensions: 5 m x 5 m x 3 m, -20°C to +50°C (±1°C), relative humidity 0 to 100% (±3%).

    More information at TNO website.

    Technical data

The institute is fully equipped to perform research in the field of thermal physiology with human subjects. This includes measurement of temperatures (thermistors, thermocouples), heart rate, ventilation and skin blood flow.
