Listen to joint press briefing on EGNOS and Galileo

Jean-Jacques Dordain and Antonio Tajani during press briefing
    4 March 2011

This morning Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of ESA, met with Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the European Commission, to discuss European industry, firms and competitiveness, relating to programmes such as EGNOS and Galileo. The meeting was followed by a joint press briefing.

EGNOS, the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service, is Europe’s first step in the area of satellite navigation. It paves the way for Galileo, Europe’s own global navigation satellite system, which is currently being built.

The EGNOS Open Service has been operational and available for use since October 2009. As of 2 March 2011, the Safety-of-Life Service is also available.
