Closure of Announcement of Opportunity for Cryosat Calibration and Validation proposals
Following ESA’s release of the 1st Announcement of Opportunity at the end 2001, which focused on Calibration, Validation and Retrieval activities for the Cryosat mission the call closed on 15 April 2002. A total of 32 proposals have been received and are currently being reviewed and a selection will be made later this year.
The scientists responsible for the successful proposals will be invited to become members of a dedicated ‘Cryosat Calibration, Validation and Retrieval Team’. The group will support and advise ESA on all issues of instrument calibration and validation. In particular the activities of the team will include:
Validation ground experiments providing independent measurements of sea ice thickness and land ice elevation change.
Calibration and validation ground experiments to further the understanding of the interaction of the radar echo with the sea ice and land ice.
- Validation of the ice thickness and ice elevation retrieval algorithms (level 1b and 2 data products).
The team will meet on a regular basis over the next two years. Meeting dates and schedules will be announced on this web site.
