With the advent of operational EO systems, an EO-based Soil Monitoring System appears feasible today. The aim of the workshop is to bring together stakeholders from the policy and user domain with remote sensing experts to discuss the necessary steps to develop such a system.

The workshop brings together European players interested in and actively contributing to the Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS). The aim is to look for synergies across projects, initiatives, to offer networking opportunities to the participants and to discuss how Europe can contribute to the international effort.

The main objective of this workshop is to recommend future international coordination permitting cooperation in the deployment, operation, and exploitation of space-based imaging spectrometers for terrestrial and coastal scientific and operational applications.

This consultation forms a critical input to the decision-making process that will lead to the selection of ESA’s ninth Earth Explorer mission.
