Video: CryoSat means sharper view of Earth's climate future
28 September 2005
Today global warming is an accepted fact of life, but could it really have disastrous effects on our climate? To help answer this question we need to take a closer look at the Earth's ice caps – and ESA's CryoSat mission is about to start doing just that.
Changes in North and South Polar ice could potentially impact global weather patterns and significantly raise sea level. This video explains how the satellite, due to launch 8 October, has been specifically designed to measure slight shifts in ice mass across both land and sea during its three-year operational lifetime.
