Space Power Technology is evolving fast. High-efficiency solar cells, high energy density batteries, and nuclear powered robotic vehicles are just a few of the hot topics involved. The European Space Power Conference 2014 has combined research into all of these topics into a complete, most absorbing conference programme. After having taken place in six different European countries, the European Space Power Conference came back to its roots in the Netherlands for its tenth edition. The ESPC2014 took place from April 13 to 17 in Noordwijkerhout, close to ESA’s Technology Centre (ESTEC).

The ESPC is the forum of choice for anyone interested in electrical power for space applications. This year’s topics ranged from power generation using solar cells, fuel cells or nuclear power, to batteries (power storage), converters, distributors and anything in between. Many renowned institutes from all over the world attended, as well as several governmental organisations and major industrial players. Oral presentations were alternated with poster sessions, seminars and workshops ensuring a wide variety of subjects for each theme.
Scientists interested in the ESPC may also be aware that the Netherlands will be hosting another conference later on this year on a related topic: the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference will be held in Amsterdam from September 22-26, 2014.
