The Concurrent Design Facility and the Concurrent Engineering section of the Technical and Quality Management directorate are organising a second workshop, to be hosted at ESTEC on the 19th and 20th October 2006.

Following the successful 2004 Concurrent Engineering for Space Applications Workshop, and given the growing interest in the CE field, the ESA Concurrent Design Facility and the Concurrent Engineering section of the Technical and Quality Management directorate are organising a second workshop, to be hosted at ESTEC, in October 2006.

The aim of the workshop is to gather together those involved in concurrent engineering and space system design, to share their experiences and recent advances in this field as well as to discuss ideas for the future.

About 100 specialist engineers from five international and national space agencies, space industry including primes, and academia attended the last workshop.

The following are examples of the many positive reactions:

The CE approach is beneficial for staff because it allows them to get a broader view of engineering design – Paul de Florio, NASA-JPL, Project Design Center.

You will get really big benefits from CE. It really does work and we were able to halve our delivery time and reduce costs by 50%. It's all about interacting in a way in which everyone has an involvement and engagement in what the final result will be, at all stages – Lester Waugh, EADS Astrium
