What benefits does the Electromagnetic Compatibility and Magneto-static Laboratory deliver?
Electromagnetic Interference is often a cause of cost and schedule overruns. The early support the Laboratory delivers to space projects enables EMC to be assured on a device level through built-in design rather than having to be remedied after-the-fact on a system level.
The Laboratory provides complete end-to-end service to ESA and external projects, incorporating preparation of test procedures, test reports and troubleshooting. Pre-compliance EMC tests are performed during the breadboarding phase, and the Laboratory has the expertise to define and perform customised tests for specific project needs.
Its Magnetic Coil Facility enables magneto-static measurements and magnetic 'perm/de-perm' for missions that require a tight control of the magnetic environment generated by the spacecraft. Among them, SWARM and BepiColombo, which are equipped with sensitive magnetometers, and LISA Pathfinder, which embarks payloads sensitive to magnetic fields, gradients and their fluctuations.
