|The European Space Agency developed a new way to diagnose anomalous or unexpected behaviour on systems, through the analysis of that system’s telemetry data. For applications where a big number of parameters (20.000 or more) are relayed for analysis, this methodology presents clear advantages over previous monitoring methods, providing earlier anomalies detections and reducing false positive events. License agreement collaborations are sought.|
The present offers relates to a new way to diagnose anomalous or unexpected behaviour on systems, through the analysis of that system’s telemetry data. It provides an efficient method to monitor large amounts of telemetry data using existent equipment at current monitoring sites. It also increases the reliability of the monitoring by increasing the detection sensitivity while reducing the number of false alarms.
The reading of this parameters can be used to monitor the state of the system, allowing the detection of abnormal behaviours that can be an indicator of malfunctions or other situations that require correction inputs by operators or the system itself.
Innovations and advantages
This technology allows the automatic identification of potential anomalies with very little pre-knowledge.
The main advantages it offers compared to the existing technologies are the following:
- Amount of parameters covered: it covers even the parameters engineers don’t think are interesting to monitor.
- Amount of engineering work required: the method reduces greatly the engineering effort, having the positive effect that human-made errors may be avoided and the reliability of the system is increased.
Regarding saving costs, this technology reduces diagnostics and maintenance costs, while decreasing downtime and accidents.

This method is used for monitoring or testing different kind of systems such as the static or dynamic balance of machines, general control or regulation systems, electric digital data processing, data processing systems or methods, emergency protective circuit arrangements or even cars. It may also be used to control the transmission of digital information.
Due to the possibility to reduce equipment downtime, this technique proves invaluable for the industry in general.
