|The European Space Agency (ESA) developed a system for automatic piloting of a sail boat. Advantages over conventional technologies include route corrections according to the waves and thus optimal comfort and performance. The organisation seeks an industrial partner to transfer this technology via a licence agreement.|
Description of the offer:
Including a module and a system for automatic piloting of a sail boat, this invention generates piloting correction in the navigation according to each wave. In terms of performance, this invention reduces up to 5% of speed loss (where speed is given by the time gain in respect to a distance in direction of the ideal path) in comparison to 30% of speed loss without the corrections.
Moreover, the module comprises (within an elaboration unit) a learning tool which allows the piloting system calibration to be performed by a human operator. This tool allows the determination of a relationship between the signal of the boat movement and the corresponding correction signal.
Innovations and advantages of the offer:
This system allows the helmsman to temporarily abandon the rudder without decreasing navigation performance.
Contrary to common automatic piloting systems, this system adjusts the direction of the boat according to wave characteristics. The loss of speed in a reference direction can be reduced up to 5% (instead of 30% of speed loss without any route correction).
