Don Quijote Industrial Phase-A starts!
Selected industrial consortia will now have the opportunity to put forward alternative design solutions for Don Quijote. The studies will focus on the design of both spacecraft together with the equipment and operations needed for the characterisation of the deflection resulting from the impact. The whole mission operations scenario, including the ground segment, will also be defined.
Following an invitation to tender and the subsequent evaluation process, three industrial teams have been awarded a contract to carry out the mission phase-A studies:
A team with Alcatel Alenia Space (I) as prime contractor, including Alcatel Alenia Space (F), QinetiQ (UK) and NGC Aerospace (CAN).
In addition the team will be supported by different consultants from across Europe: Istituto di Fisica dello Spazio Interplanetario (I), Osservatorio Astronomico di Torino (I), Observatoire de Paris, Università di Roma "La Sapienza" (I), University of Michigan (US) and Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur (F)
A consortium led by EADS Astrium (D), which includes EADS CASA Espacio (E), Deimos Space (E).
In addition the team will count with dedicated support from University of Pisa (I), Ernst-Mach Institute (D), DLR Berlin (D), Open University (UK) and Spaceguard Foundation (UK)
- A team lead by QinetiQ (UK)), including Swedish Space Corporation (SE), Verhaert Space (B), SciSys (UK) and Open University (UK).
