The GOMX-4B mission consists of a Cubesat that follows the CubeSat Standard Specifications with a size factor of 6U, developed together with the GOMX-4A project. Both satellites are intended for the Inter-Satellite Link (ISL) demonstration in order to prove the feasibility of a future operation constellation of CubeSats known as Ulloriaq. This constellation would comprise of 10+ satellites, each a mix of GOMX-4A & B functionality: orbit maintenance, ISL, and advanced sensing. Such a constellation would be capable of low-latency advanced observations of artic regions, a key functionality for the Danish government due to its responsibilities in the Artic region.

Objectives
The purpose of this project was to perform a mission and system design definition study of the GOMX-4B mission, concluding with a Preliminary Design Review.

Complete GOMX-4B architecture: full bus layouts for both the electrical and data

Achievements and status
The result of mission and system design will be the basis of the activity for GOMX-34B phase C-E.

Main outcomes of the mission and system study:

  • Defined; mission objectives, requirements and constraints; mission design based on mission analysis and mission requirements; system requirements deriving from the mission requirements and mission design/analysis; system design and constraints based on system-level analysis, and confirmed compliance to the requirements;
  • Confirmed and defined suitability of selected off-the-shelf equipment for use in the platform, based on qualification status.
  • Investigated the feasibility of the 3’rd party payloads to be included in the GOMX-4B design and possible launch options.

All requirements and interfaces associated with flight opportunity have been confirmed with compliance. Defined the associated system development and AIV plan for the following Phases, with detailed project schedule and estimated cost to completion for the following Phase.

Benefits
The mission & design pre study will be used as basis for the GOMX-4B project.
