ESA BIC start-up awarded

The start-up company SellNews from ESA BIC Darmstadt won the "Entrepreneur Award” with their innovative business model at the Forum Kiedrich in Germany.

SellNews is an auction platform for news media. Founded in November 2010, the company facilitates the exchange of news media for everyone and provides an online efficient platform to exchange pictures and video material between journalists, private providers and editors.

With their mobile phones and cameras at hand, random witnesses often happen to be closer to the action than editorial teams and journalists. With news today spreading faster through the web than through classical news channels, reporters and journalists want to buy and sell their news footage in a simple way. Also editors often fail to find exclusive and updated news material before their submission deadlines.

On SellNews, anyone can upload and sell pictures as well as videos. Eye witnesses do not need to contact editors one by one. Journalists can offer their footage to a very large number of potential buyers. Editors are not dependent on a small number of journalists, but can acquire directly on SellNews pictures and video material. Access is possible from anywhere and at any time via the internet.

SellNews was handed over the "Entrepreneur Award” at the 33rd Forum Kiedrich in Wiesbaden, Germany.
