Innovative developers from Europe with experience in app development are invited to apply for admission to the Space App Camp by 3 March 2014.

The EU co-funded project Sustainable Services for GMES and GNSS in Mobile and Mobility (S2G2M2) is inviting 20 developers to ESA in the Netherlands (including travel expenses and accommodation) for the chance to work with like-minded people, learn how to integrate satellite data into their mobile applications, and gain insight into European space programmes.

The participants to the Space App Camp 2014 will be selected based on the creativity of their previous works with regard to content, usability, design, and the underlying business concepts. Those interested will need to include links to published apps (Android or iOS platforms) and other references in their applications.

The Space App Camp 2014 will take place at ESA's space research and technology centre ESTEC in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, between 4 and 12 May 2014, during which the participants will be provided with access to satellite data designed to help them develop mobile applications in five categories: Agriculture, Emergency and Rescue Management, Environmental Protection, Maritime Environment and Maritime Transportation, and Lifestyle.

The goal is to come up with working app prototypes that use data from Europe’s satellite navigation systems Galileo/EGNOS and Earth observation Copernicus programmes on mobile devices. Experience in integrating such data is not required to take part in the Space App Camp.

Interested? Apply before 3 March 2014

About the S2G2M2 project

Sustainable Services for Copernicus and GNSS in Mobile and Mobility (S2G2M2) is a project under the European Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP) and part of the strategic European Mobile and Mobility Industries Alliance (EMMIA). It aims to support innovative mobile service providers in taking advantage of the European satellite navigation systems (Galileo and EGNOS) and data derived from the European Earth observation programme Copernicus.

Its pan-European approach ensures that the relevant SME community has access to support mechanisms regardless of their geographic location or size. The S2G2M2 project is being coordinated by the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) and implemented in collaboration with Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO) and the European Business & Innovation Centre Network (EBN).
