ESA BIC Finland start-up Terramonitor provides an up-to-date, comprehensive and cloudless map of the Earth consisting of over 100 million images. Visit ESA stand at SLUSH to meet Terramonitor

The maps gives professionals the power to analyze, build and organize geographical information into actionable insights by leveraging up-to-date satellite data and enriches by Artificial Intelligence.

An up-to-date view on the world at your fingertips

Joni Norppa and Lauri Häme participated in a research project about the utilization of satellite images in 2015 and found that huge amounts of satellite data is produced daily but only a fraction of it is utilized. Satellite data was mainly used for research purposes, and the use was considered challenging, expensive and difficult, with the biggest challenges the enormous amount of satellite imagery available and the complex processing.

The two entrepreneurs had the idea of democratizing satellite data and founded Terramonitor.

They wanted to make satellite data accessible for everyone and launched Terramonitor, the first unified and up-to-date, global, enriched map produced by artificial intelligence.

They created a map complex that contains over 100 million streaming images updated automatically every day.

This can provide customers with an up-to-date view of the globe at any time. The tool can be integrated into existing map services.

Smart forestry

Manage, detect and monitor forests and always have an up-to-date view no matter where.

With a constantly updating view, the customer can monitor new loggings, forest roads or other significant changes. Additional vegetation and false colour maps allow to analyse the vegetation status and its development.

Intelligent infrastructure

Terramonitor reveals the secrets of infrastructure and provides the tools to monitor the development of a road network, power lines or airport construction bases on satellite views.

Modern agriculture

Smart agriculture means using all the available tools to provide a better, healthier and more sustainable future for humans, animals and the whole globe.

Terramonitor allows to see and monitor crop fields from space, and detect any dryness and damage that might occur.

The Terramonitor system is designed and built by GIS People for GIS People. It enables customers to to enrich their existing systems and business decision making processes and it is open to integrate through an API for any GIS system.

Terramonitor from ESA Business Incubation Centre Finland will be at SLUSH 2018 in Helsinki to present their business. Meet the entrepreneurs to discuss how their solution can help you to getting hold on the right satellite images and quickly integrate them into your systems and business.

ESA BICs - World's largest ecosystem for space-related entrepreneurship

The ESA Business Incubation Centre in Finland was founded in 2017 and it part of the wider network of 20 ESA BICs throughput Europe.

The centres are operated under ESA’s Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Programme Office (TTPO) as part of the ‘ESA space solutions’ network of Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) and Technology Transfer Brokers offering complete access to all aspects of space-related innovation, technology and intellectual properties and is a gateway to ESA and European space research and developments.

The 20 ESA BICs in 17 European countries – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UK – are forming the largest ecosystem in the world for space-related entrepreneurship. The 21th centre is soon to open in Northern Germany and more centres are already under preparation.

Over 650 start-ups have been fostered and another 160 new start-ups are taken in yearly at the ESA BICs to be supported under the two-years business development boosting programme.
