The last major milestone of the Vega programme for 2006 took place as planned on 20 and 21 December at ESA’s ESRIN facility at Frascati, in Italy. The Vega Critical Design Review, chaired by Michel Courtois, ESA’s Director of Technical and Quality Management, was kicked off.

The Critical Design Review (CDR) is being conducted with the participation of about 50 independent review members, gathering together the best European expertise in launch systems. At this opening meeting the Vega integrated project team, together with the launch vehicle prime contractor, ELV Spa, presented the status of the Vega programme, the review objectives and the data package submitted for the review.

The CDR is a major milestone in the Vega development programme, since it will allow assessment of the detailed design activities and provide the go ahead for the activities leading to the qualification of the launch system.
