Colloidal nanothrusters produce precise thrust for satellites by electrospraying tiny liquid droplets accurately enough to compensate for the slight but significant push from sunlight itself. The Electrospinning company, spun off from the UK’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, has adapted the technology to produce electrospun nanofibre scaffolds, which support 3D cell growth for researching new drugs and regenerative medicine. For instance, microscopic scaffolds can guide the regrowth of cell tissue across gaps to treat nerve damage.
