ESA’s Iris Programme is developing a satellite-based air-ground communication system for air traffic management (ATM) as part of the Single European Sky initiative to support aviation growth. More than 100 representatives of the ATM community, telecommunications and space industries recently met in Prague to exchange information now that the development phase is fully under way.

The Iris Information Event, held in late May, has been hosted by the Czech Republic – ESA’s newest Member State. The meeting was organised in cooperation with the Czech Ministries of Transport and Education, Youth and Sports, and the Czech Space Office.

Dita Schautova, the Czech Deputy Minister of Transport, and Vlastimil Ruzicka, Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, emphasised the importance of Iris for the participation of the Czech Republic in ESA activities.
