Meet satsearch at ESA space solutions Innovation Village at the Paris Space Week. The start-up from ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) Noordwijk has developed a marketplace that indexes the global space supply chain, enabling users to identify, analyze and compare suppliers and their products.

The Paris Space Week takes place 2-3 April 2019 at the Museum of Air and Space, at Paris Le Bourget.

ESA BIC Nord France will be presenting the opportunities offered by ESA’s Business Applications and Space Solutions together with a number of ESA BIC start-ups at the ESA space solutions Innovation Village pavilion.

ESA BIC Noordwijk start-up satsearch
satsearch has launched the first online marketplace for satellite design and space engineering which provides an open, global, up-to-date database of space products and services through a special developed search engine.

The mission is to digitalize the global space supply chain, leading to better designs, shorter lead times, and ultimately more cost-effective and robust space systems.

Space engineers face a myriad of questions about the global market during the design process.

The global space supply chain is becoming increasingly fragmented, hence they face a slew of time-consuming challenges, including product search, data export and harmonization, design trade-offs and risk assessment.

Finding the right products currently costs thousands of man-hours because there is no easy way to search for them, fragmented supplier landscape and difficult access to supply chain information.

”We have developed a unique approach to collect, curate and structure unstructured supply chain data,” says satsearch co-founder and CEO Kartik Kumar.

“We are actively developing a tool-chain for creation, maintenance, and use of electronic data sheets, which allows us to embed supply chain data across the space mission life cycle.”

“Complex space missions necessitate the use of intelligent design tools. Our tool-chain makes Data-Driven Design (D3) a reality, enabling rapid feasibility assessment, concept validation and robust design,” adds Kartik.

“Integrated Mission Design is our proprietary D3 approach that embeds supply chain data in the engineering and procurement process through deep software integration.”

In May 2018, satsearch was accepted into the ESA BIC Noordwijk business incubation program, offered through SBIC Noordwijk, in the Netherlands. This marks an important milestone for the company as the ESA BIC offers the ideal platform to propel the company forward towards full-scale supply chain digitalization.

Already on five continents
The satsearch system covers already over 650 suppliers globally, with products from companies in 31 countries.

Last year, ANTRIX Corporation Limited, a wholly-owned Government of India Company, joined by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with satsearch to showcase specific products and services offered by the Indian space sector.

ANTRIX aims to tap into global reach offered through the satsearch platform and to highlight the core technologies mastered by the Indian space supply chain.

At the Toulouse Space Show 2018 the French Space Agency Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) signed the Memorandum of Understanding with satsearch to digitalize space engineering.

This marked another key stepping-stone towards the goal of building a rich ecosystem of partners to support satsearch efforts to spearhead digitalization of the global space supply chain. More have since joined the online marketplace platform.

ESA space solutions Innovation Village at Paris Space Show 2019

At the ESA space solutions Innovation Village at Paris Space Show 2-3 April 2019, ESA BIC Nord France will present what the 20 ESA Business Incubation Centres can offer entrepreneurs throughout Europe and help to turn innovative space-related ideas into new viable companies.

Meet the satsearch entrepreneurs and many other ESA BIC start-ups from France, Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany at the ESA space solutions Innovation Village and learn more about their product and services. The village provides a look into great examples of aerospace technology systems and services developed by European start-ups with visionary goals.

On 2 April at 6 pm presentations of the opportunities in space and space spin-offs will be illustrated by speakers from CNES, ESA BIC Nord France and the ESA BIC start-up E-odyn. This will be followed by the announcement of the Start-up Challenge Winner, the ESA BIC Nord France opening announcement and a networking event.

World's largest ecosystem for space-related entrepreneurship

ESA BIC Nord France is part of ESA’s Business Applications and Space Solutions programme and its network of 20 ESA BICs throughout Europe that co-funds projects and start-ups while offering technical and business support to companies that seek to deliver rapid innovation and raise private investment. Overall ESA spends €400 million a year on strengthening the competitiveness of European and Canadian companies in the global markets not only for satellite communications but also for downstream applications.

The 20 ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) are forming the largest ecosystem in the world for space-related entrepreneurship and has fostered over 700 start-ups throughout Europe. Spread over more than 60 cities in 17 countries, more than 300 start-ups are currently under the two-years business incubation development booster programme with another 180 taking in yearly.

Today, there are ESA BICs in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UK, with more already in the planning.
