From generating protein from just air and electricity, AI-smart satellite maps to plug&play automated composite manufacturing. At the ESA stand 12 ESA Business Incubation start-ups showcase their cutting-edge ideas and solutions for space and beyond.

The start-ups' efforts span a wide range of game-changing concepts illustrating the potential for re-using space technology in terrestrial applications and the substancially boost Earth observation data and satellites-based services can give to challenges down here on Earth.

These impressive innovative solutions have been created and developed by start-ups at ESA Business Incubation Centres in Europe, the world`s largest ecosystem for space-related entrepreneurship.

Visit the ESA stand at SLUSH and you will meet eye-opening solutions from 24 start-ups from ESA BIC Finland, ESA BIC Sweden and ESA BIC Switzerland – below brief intros to them all.

We Need More Space!

If you want to know more about how space can help down here on Earth, listed to Head of ESA Technolgy Transfer and Business Incubation Office Frank M. Salzgeber tak from SLUSH 2016.

FlyPulse from ESA BIC Sweden offers cutting-edge technology for airborne aid. Drones are used for automatic long range transportation of blood samples (more than 100km) or search, find and help persons in life-threatening situations.

CleanSpace One from ESA BIC Switzerland develops innovative technology and services to safely remove failed satellite and space debris.

WideFind from ESA BIC Sweden uses cutting-edge technology to localize everything everywhere with profound accuracy and perfomance for any customer application needs.

Elfys from ESA BIC Finland uses black silicon photodiodes for superior light and X-ray detection with up to 200% improvement in UV and 30-50% in X+ray detection and imaging.

AddComposites from ESA BIC Finland has developed the world's first plug&play automated composite manufacturing, 3x faster turnaround, 15x more cost effective and 80% lower labour costs.

ESA BICs - world`s largest ecosystem for space-related entrepreneurship

The ESA Business Incubation Centre in Switzerland was founded in 2016 and it part of the wider network of 20 ESA BICs throughput Europe.

The centres are operated under ESA’s Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Programme Office (TTPO) as part of the ‘ESA space solutions’ network of Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) and Technology Transfer Brokers offering complete access to all aspects of space-related innovation, technology and intellectual properties and is a gateway to ESA and European space research and developments.

The 20 ESA BICs in 17 European countries – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK – are forming the largest ecosystem in the world for space-related entrepreneurship.

The 21st centre is soon to open in Northern Germany and more centres are already under preparation.

Over 650 start-ups have been fostered and another 160 new start-ups are taken in yearly at the ESA BICs to be supported under the two-years business development boosting programme.
