ESA BIC Bavaria start-up Isar Aerospace develops and manufactures orbital launch vehicles for satellite transportation. Meet Isar Aerospace at the 10th ESA Investment Forum in ESOC 31 January 2019.

In a world of fast-paced technical developments, Isar Aerospace provides an leading-edge solution for Europe to access and use space at the forefront of global innovation

With payload capacities of up to 600kg to polar orbits, the Munich-based Isar Aerospace is working towards making space access more flexible and affordable for small and medium satellites as well as satellite constellations.

The launch vehicle features fully in-house developed propulsion units on the edge of today’s technical capabilities.

Through advanced manufacturing techniques and processes the rocket engines offer outstanding performance while simultaneously lowering emissions drastically.

Satellite constellations change the way we exchange and access data on Earth, enabling near real-time coverage in the fields of Earth observation, connectivity and telecommunications.

“Our aim is to revolutionize access to space and to make it affordable for everybody,” said Daniel Metzler, co-founder, and CEO of Isar Aerospace Technologies.

“To achieve this, we are starting off by turning our attention to the most complex part of a launch vehicle – the propulsion system.”

He emphasizes that Isar Aerospace`s rocket engines are cost effective and at the same time considerably more advanced than conventional motors in the same thrust class.

The company team builds upon extensive experience in rocket engine and sounding rocket design and testing from Technical University Munich.

Now hosted at ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Bavaria, Isar Aerospace is currently are working on developing high-performance technologies powered by a combination of hydrocarbon mixtures and liquid oxygen which could make conventional, toxic rocket fuels obsolete.

The first launch is planned for 2021.

Isar Aerospace will participate to the 10th ESA Investment Forum 31 January 2019.

The ESA Investment Forum is an ESA space solutions event organized by ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) Hessen and Baden-Württemberg in partnership with High-Tech Gründerfonds Management GmbH and Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR)

The aim is to foster investments in start-ups operating in the space domain as well as within related application domains, downstream as well as upstream. It provides a platform for networking as well as matchmaking between innovative space start-ups and investors.

ESA BICs - World's largest ecosystem for space-related entrepreneurship

The ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) Bavaria is part of the ESA space solutions network of 20 ESA BICs throughout Europe.

The centres are operated under ESA’s Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Programme Office (TTPO) with the European network of Technology Transfer Brokers. Together they offer access to all aspects of space-related innovation, technology and intellectual properties and is a gateway to ESA and European space research and developments.

The 20 ESA BICs in 17 European countries – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UK – are forming the largest ecosystem in the world for space-related entrepreneurship. The 21th centre is soon to open in Northern Germany and more centres are already under preparation.

Over 700 start-ups have been fostered and another near 180 new start-ups are taken in yearly at the ESA BICs to be supported under the two-years business development boosting programme.
