In today`s fast-paced era, real innovation comes from companies who develop products around their customers’ needs and by use of creative technologies. Tomorrow at the Bucharest Tech Week “Business Summit”, Frank Salzgeber from ESA will illustrate how space can drive industry innovation.

Now in its fourth edition, the mission of Bucharest Tech Week is to encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

The newest trends and insights in technology is shared by over 30 international experts and showcased to business professionals.

The potential of technology and innovation will be demonstrated by the special guest Furhat, an AI social robot that can display complex expressions and communicate with us humans as we do with each other - by speaking, listening, showing emotions and maintaining eye contact.

We need more Space

At the Innovation Summit 21 May, Head of Innovation and Ventures Office at ESA Telecommunications and Integrated Applications Frank M. Salzgeber will illustrate how space technology, systems and know-how can drive business growth, through product innovation, to be illustrated also with start-up success cases from ESA Business Incubation Centre, the ESA BICs.

“Space is the backbone of the digital economy, telecommunication, navigation and Earth observation,” explains Frank M. Salzgeber,

“There will be no automated driving, sipping, fighting without space technology and services.

“European Space Agency supports SMEs, industry but also especially start-ups to unite assets from space and help them to work in space.  

“ESA runs the world biggest space-related entrepreneurship network, the ESA Business Incubation Centre network, supporting 180 new start ups every year.”

ESA Business Applications and Space Solutions

ESA's Business Applications programme helps European industry in non-space sectors to use space to enhance their products or services in a wide range of domains such as health, safety, environment, development, energy, aviation and transport.

The ESA Space Solutions network with its 20 ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) throughout Europe supports entrepreneurs and start-ups to foster new companies and jobs based on space technologies and the use of satellite services.

Largest eco-system in the world for space-related entrepreneurship

The ESA BIC network is forming the largest ecosystem in the world for space-related entrepreneurship and has fostered over 700 start-ups throughout Europe.

Spread over more than 60 cities in 17 countries, more than 300 start-ups are currently under the two-years business incubation development booster programme with another 180 taking in yearly.

Today, there are ESA BICs in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UK, with more already in the planning.
