Norwegian Centre for Space-related Education

NAROM (Norwegian Centre for Space-related Education) initiates, develops, and performs educational activities, seminars and conferences at all levels of education within subject areas related to space, such as space technology, space physics, atmosphere and environment.

NAROM is co-located with Andøya Rocket Range, an independent branch of the governmental Norwegian Space Centre. Andøya Rocket Range (ARR) is on the island of Andøya in Northern Norway.

ARR has more than 40 years of experience with scientific sounding rockets and balloons. The ALOMAR (Arctic Lidar Observatory for Middle Atmosphere Research) facility is also close by.

NAROM and CanSats

NAROM first organised a pilot CanSat competition in Norway in 2008. The activity proved to be popular with Norwegian high schools and is now established as an annual national event.

Selected CanSats are launched from Andøya on rockets up to 1 km altitude. NAROM formed a partnership with ESA to host the first European CanSat Competition in August 2010.
